Amos Waverly Harper, Jr. also known as "VEEP", 80, passed away August 13, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Harper was a retired officer from the United States Air Force. He also worked for Community Services Administration in Philadelphia, PA and Guilford County School Systems. He was a graduate of Johnson C. Smith University and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
He is survived by one sister, Allette H. Crump (Roy); a dear friend, Virginia A. Smith and children, Reginald Smith (Rita), Denise Tatum (Ron), Jan Chapman, and Gina Smith; three cousins, Donald Brown (Evelyn), Francis Hiawatha Brown, and Anne Lytle; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 12noon Thursday, August 18, 2011 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with full military honors. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Thursday at the Chapel.
