Obituary

"Greater is He that is in me, than he that is in the world."
Mr. Alvonzel Dennard Cason, a.k.a "Von" and "Stretch", departed this life on Wednesday, August 3, 2011. He was born October 11, 1950 in Winston –Salem, NC to Catherine Raleigh Gray Cason and the late George P. Cason, Jr.
He was a 1970 graduate of Atkins Senior High School and completed the study of Photography at Nassau Community College in Uniondale, NY. Mr. Cason was a Veteran of the United States Army and a retired letter carrier of the United States Postal Service, with more than 30 years of service.
Alvonzel Cason was a member of United Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a chartered member under the Pastorialship of the late Dr. J. Ray Butler. He served in many capacities including Deacon, Chairman of The Trustee Board, Assistant Sunday School Teacher, a member of the usher board, mass choir, scholarship committee and President of the United Cornerstone Community Resource Center.
Mr. Cason was actively involved in civic and community work. He was a Past Master of James H. Young Memorial Masonic Lodge #670 (PHA). He served as Political Chairman and Assistant Financial Secretary of The Black Leadership Roundtable.
Mr. Cason leaves loved and cherished memories to his wife, Bernese Sullivan-Cason; daughter, Tamala Ingram; grandchildren, Brandon and Brittney; great- grands, Damare, Bryson and Dalayah all of Winston-Salem, NC; also, loving memories are left to his mother, Catherine Cason; siblings, Willette G. Winfield, James Otis Gray, Janie G. Thompson and Monta Cason, all of Winston- Salem, NC; four brothers-in-law, James (Jackie) Sullivan, Dexter (Peggy) Sullivan, John (Sylvia) Sullivan, and Kenneth (Cynthia) Sullivan all of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Monday, August 8, 2011 at United Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church, 2745 Patria Street @ Wright Street, Winston-Salem, NC with Dr. James F. Linville officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11am until 12noon on Monday at the Church. There will be no viewing on Monday at the Church; all viewing will be held Sunday at Russell Funeral Home.
