"I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." II Timothy 4:7
Mr. Alvin Jerome Smith, better known to many as "Stone", was born June 5, 1959 to Raymond, Jr. and Lula Mae Smith of Asheville, NC.
"Stone" graduated from Asheville high School. He had a special gift with his hands. Anything he touched he could fix better than it was before. He worked in the factory for some time, but his specialty was working on cars. While doing what he loved, he also loved spending time with his family and helping anybody that called upon him to do anything. He was loved and well known in the community and known for his knowledge of the history of Asheville and surrounding areas.
After a long fight and battle, "Stone" transitioned from labor to reward on May 17, 2016 at The Oaks at Sweeten Creek.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Smith, III; and his sister, Sandra Ellington.
He leaves to cherish his memories his children, Shannon (Matthew) Gillis, Serita Woods, Altaego Wadsworth, Terrance "TJ" Thomas, Terrance Gates, Janay (Damien) Shell, Katherine Minton, and Tyree Woods; five grandchildren; brothers, Gerald Smith and William "Billy" Smith; sisters, Cathy Smith, Louise "Winky" Smith, Janice Smith, and Stella Smith; one uncle and two aunts; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Nazareth First Missionary Baptist Church, 146 Pine Street Asheville, NC 28801 with Pastor Calvin Hailstock officiating. The family visitation will be held from 2:00pm until 3:00pm on Sunday at the Church.
