Alvin Belmont Garr was born on October 17, 1948 in Boyle County, Kentucky to Derward Belmont Garr and Dora Dean Clayton. He departed this life on July 29, 2015 at 11:37 a.m. at Wake Forest Baptist Health.

The greatest gift of his life, Aretha LaMoure Garr, was born on August 4, 1973. He was a loving, dedicated, and supportive father to his baby girl for all her life and the last forty-two of his.
Corporal Alvin B. Garr served in the United States Marine Corp as a Military Policeman in the Vietnam War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnamese Service Medal. Upon hearing that his grandson, Timothy Wade Watkins, entered the United States Navy, Alvin was very proud to know the family tradition of serving and protecting the country was carried on.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Gwendolyn Dale Garr and Carol Jean Johnson.

He leaves to celebrate his life and carry on his legacy his only child, Aretha LaMoure Garr; grandchildren, Timothy Wade Watkins (Brittany Shea Giddens-Watkins), Natalia Elise Watkins, and Ariana Nysha Watkins; step-mother, Claudine Sallee Garr; sisters, Sherry Denise Garr-Hilliard, Millie Lorraine Garr, and Darlene Garr; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held from 12noon until 2:00pm on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at Carver Road Church of Christ.
