Our beloved father, son, brother, and friend, Alton Darrell Rucker, 52, of 1612 E. 22nd St., departed his life on Friday, March 29, 2013 at the KB Reynolds Hospice Home after an extended illness. He was born May 27, 1960 in W-S, NC to Herman Stapler and Ethel Bernice Rucker-Stapler.
He attended North Forsyth High School and was a graduate of Forsyth Technical Community College. He was an employee of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System and was previously employed by the City of Winston-Salem. For many years he coached Pop Warner Football. He was a faithful member of Carver Road Church of Christ where he also served as an usher.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Stapler; and his step-son, Ricky Nelson.
Darrell leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving mother, Mrs. Ethel Bernice Rucker-Stapler of W-S, NC; brothers, Henry Rucker of W-S, NC and James Thomas Rucker of Durham, NC; sisters, Novis Stapler-Scippio (Rogers) of Stockton, CA, Phyllis Stapler-Brown (Johnny) of High Point, NC, and Deitra Deneen Stapler-Hulbert of W-S, NC; nieces/sisters, Chevella Stapler-Gaston (Marvin) and Kim Rucker-McCullough (Alex) both of W-S, NC; devoted friend, Hazel Griffin of W-S, NC, Darrian Hale, Christina Hale, and Izetta Hale of W-S, NC to whom he was a surrogate father; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, as well as other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm Friday, April 5, 2013 at Carver Road Church of Christ with Brother Jefferson Caruthers, Jr. officiating. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12:30pm on Friday at the Church.
