Alonzo Robert Jones, 98, died on December 6, 2011 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
He was born on July 15, 1913 in Rock Hill, SC; he was the son of the late Mack and Maggie Jones.

He was educated in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Public schools and was a graduate of Atkins High School. He retired from Alcatel/Lucent after 35 years of service.

He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church for more than 50 years and he served as Chairman of the Deacon board, Layman League, Sunday school teacher, and a strong supporter of many church activities.
His other interests included membership in the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge, Retired Senior Citizens Men' Club, and the Deacon Union City Wide Organization.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Myrtle H. Jones; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter.

Mr. Jones is survived by his three children, Doris J. Cardwell (Dwight), Frederick Jones (Collene), and Ronald Jones; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four nieces; three nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Friday, December 9, 2011 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Serenus T. Churn, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30am until 12noon on Friday at the Church.

The family appreciates the loving care that Hospice and Palliative nurses and staff provided in those final hours.
