Alfreta "Freta" Denise Edwards, 65, daughter of Booker "BT" Edwards, Jr. and Thelma Mae Barkley, was born May 26, 1959 in Youngstown, Ohio. She was raised by a loving, devoted village of extended family.

She departed this life the morning of October 15, 2024 at the Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem, North Carolina, following an extended period of suffering from an illness she had been battling for the past few years.

Anyone that knew "Freta" could count on her feeding you if you were hungry. She was employed in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools where she was able to express her heart for feeding all of the children that she came into contact with, until her health declined and she was no longer able to work.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Booker T., Sr. and Eloise Edwards; her father, Booker "BT" Edwards, Jr.; and brother, Rico Edwards.

"Freta" is survived by her sons, Dominic Howard and Monté Edwards both of the city; thirteen grandchildren; her siblings, Leroy, Lee, Wade, Sylvia, Karla, Jacqueline, and Deborah, and their spouses; a host of other family members and friends; dedicated neighbors, Joy and Randy; and her faithful, furry companion, Sarge.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, November 2, 2024 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel.
