Obituary

Mr. Alfonzo Johnson passed away at Forsyth Medical Center on Monday, January 26, 2015. He was born to the late Ethel Kitt-Jones in Winston-Salem, NC on July 17, 1941.

He attended Atkins High School and after giving honorable service for his country, he retired from the United States Army Reserves. He retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company following over 40 years of dedicated service to the company.
Mr. Johnson was a life-long member of Mount Zion Baptist Church where he faithfully served on the Deacon Board.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by two children, Kim Jones and Anthony Johnson; and three siblings, Lynette Johnson, Betty Ann Smith and James Johnson.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 48 years, Elvenia Dunham Johnson; his children, Dr. Sheila (Billie) Campbell, Renee' (Chowan) Johnson-Melton, Angela Boyd and Alfonzo (Stephonia) Duncan; daughter-in-law, Catrina Wilson Johnson; three sisters, Bertia Banner, Apostle Brenda McCloud and Veronica (Roger) Johnson; two sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; special niece, Tanya Johnson-Brown; 11 grandchildren; one great grandchild; long-time friend, Al (Addie) Jabbar; extended family members and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Mount Zion Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will greet friends 30 minutes prior to the service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
