Alease Virginia Bowles Loggins was born in Martinsville, VA on September 11, 1935. She was the oldest of five children born to Tommy and Irene Bowles. Her husband, David C. Loggins and her son, Stanley J. Loggins preceded her in death.
Alease graduated from Albert Harris High School at the age of 16. She married her husband David in May 1954 at the age of 19 and lived in Stuart, VA. Their son, Stanley was born on August 26, 1955. She attended Durham Business College in Durham, NC and received a Diploma in Secretarial Science in 1961. The family moved to Winston-Salem, NC where Alease had several jobs before working at Old Town Telephone Company where she eventually became the Office Manager. She worked in this position until she retired to take care of her husband who was ill. Alease and David celebrated 42 years of marriage until his death in 1996.
She joined Grace Presbyterian Church in 1967. To further her Christian knowledge she received a Diploma in Educational Ministries from the Shaw Divinity School in Raleigh, NC. She was ordained an Elder in the church in 2001. Because of her love for the church, she was active in many activities which included, a member and President of the Presbyterian Woman, leader of the Women's Bible Study, member of the Hunger and Human Services Committee, member of an Hour for Grace-lunch distribution program, Session Board member and she also worked with the Noon Bible Study program. She loved attending church and was an active member until her illness prevented it.
Alease was also active in the community. She served breakfast at the Samaritan Ministries as part of her volunteer work for the community. She also worked with her neighborhood association on planting flowers at the entrance of the development.
Alease was a confident, independent person who took full control of her life and looked for activities to improve and further her enjoyment. She loved learning and wanted to continue her education. She graduated from Winston-Salem State University with a BA degree in Accounting in 1983. With this connection to Winston-Salem State in her later life she became a Rams Horns' Club member. She enjoyed going to the homecoming parades, games, and award dinners. Alease also worked with the Friends of the Library and the Alumni Association. She continued these activities until she was no longer able to participate.
Anyone who knew Alease knew that she loved her cats. No one knows exactly how many cats she had over her life, but she was definitely a cat person. The last three cats: Jade, Maya, and Bitsy were an important part of her life, especially after the sudden death of her son, Stan in 2011. When she was no longer able to live at home alone she moved to Forest Heights Senior Living Community, she was happy that she was able to take Jade with her. She loved her apartment and was abel to live independently for a while.
Alease was always a person who dressed meticulously and took great pride in always looking her best and living her was no exception. Each day she dressed as though she was going to work, wearing her suits, blazers, scarfs, pearls, etc. She loved the environment, the activities, having visitors, and making new friends.
Alease was freed from her earthly bonds at Forest Heights on October 5, 2018.
Her homegoing is celebrated by her brother, Thomas (Joyce) Bowles of Roanoke, VA; sisters, Oneta (J.C.) Hall of Atlanta, GA and Shelia (James) Wright of Mitchellville, MD; brother-in-law, Vesharn (Patricia, deceased) Scales; sister-in-law, Evelyn Hogan; nephews, Brian (Alicia) Bowles, Juan (Charlene) Hall, and Bob (Cleathan) Lewis; grandson, Antione Greene; two nieces, Debbie McQueen and Lauren Lewis; grandnieces, Alia and Kaci Bowles and Brooke Hall; a very good friend, DeValdean Penn; and a host of other relations and friends.
