Mr. Albert Smith Rogers, 85, departed this life on Monday, March 10, 2008 at Springwood Care Center at 1:45pm. He was born the eldest of ten siblings on October 12, 1922 in Union, SC to Robert Lee Rogers, Jr. and Cornelia Smith Rogers.
He attended public school in Santuc, SC. He was employed for several years as a material handler at Hanes Mills on Stratford Road in Winston-Salem, NC. After retirement he worked part-time at K&W Cafeteria on Healy Drive, in Winston-Salem, NC. He was an active member of the Senior Usher board at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church until a declination in health.
He was married to the late Katherine E. VanEaton Rogers, and in their union there were five children: James Washington (Stephanie), Jackie Rogers (Peggy), daughter, the Reverend Cornelius Joyce (Jerry), Simon Rogers, Danny Lee Rogers, and one stepson Charles VanEaton, all of Winston-Salem, NC.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and eight siblings.
Surviving siblings are sister, Annie Ruth Richardson (Willie) of Columbia, SC, and brother, Robert Lee Rogers (Robena) of Philadelphia, PA; sisters-in-law, Madie Rogers, Daisey Rogers, and Mildred Tucker, all of Philadelphia, PA; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; a very special friend of the family, Immogene Bray, and several other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Friday, March 14, 2008 at Mt Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, 795 Northwest Crawford Place, in Winston-Salem, NC 27105. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm until 1 pm Friday at the church.
