Obituary

To some he may be forgotten, to others just a part of the past-but to those who loved and lost him, his memory will forever last. A cluster of beautiful memories, sprinkled with tears, wishing God had granted us just a few more years.

Mr. Albert Hayes Penn, Sr. was born on December 5, 1942, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to the late Richard N. Penn, Sr. and the late Mamie James Penn. He was the sixth of eleven children born to this union.

Albert received his education in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools, attending Woodland Avenue, 14th Street School, and Atkins High School. At an early age, he began his working career at Mr. Dockery's Store. He later worked with Lingle Bakery, served as a security guard, and dedicated 21 years of service to R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. In his later years, he found joy and purpose working with the Food Lion Community Feed at Mount Carmel Baptist Church.

On August 10, 2003, Deacon Penn, united with Mount Carmel Baptist Church. For 22 years, he faithfully served as a member of the Deacon Board, Sunday School, Male Chorus, and the Community Feed Team.In addition to his parents, Albert was preceded in death by eight of his siblings.

He peacefully departed this life on Monday, September 22, 2025.

Deacon Penn leaves not to mourn but to cherish the memories of loving and devoted wife, Rosa Penn of 43 years; eight daughters, Miss April (William) Bailey, Miss Darlene Penn, Miss Lisa Penn, Miss Deborah Penn, Mrs. Rose (Eric) Brown, Miss Collette Chalmers, Miss Shema Taylor of all of the city, and Mrs. Jacqueline (LaTroy) Williams of Covington for Georgia; four sons, Albert H. Penn Jr., Roy (Demetrius) Allen, Dominique Penn, and Deangelo McMoore of the city; 27 grandchildren; 46 great-grands; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Miss Adrienne P. Hines; one brother, William (Angela) Penn Sr. of the city, two brothers-in-law, Mr. Lee Allen and Mr. David (Virginia) Allen; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, the Mount Carmel family, and a special cousin, Mrs. Cheryl Penn of the city.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Wednesday at the Church.
