Miss Alana Monet Alston, age 22, spread her wings and flew to her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Wake Forest Baptist Health.
Alana was a vibrant and loving young lady. She touched many lives in her 22 years. She loved God and did not hesitate to express this. She was incredibly creative, and this was evident in her original fashion designs and photographic eye. Her friends and family recognized her as an expert on hair, makeup, and clothing. She graduated from Reynolds High School in 2010, and attended the Arts Institute of Philadelphia. Alana loved to laugh and have fun. She had the talent of imitating different accents, and according to her sisters, Yasmeen and Maggie, they spent hours just laughing and having fun.
Alana was preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Florence Alston; her aunt, Gloria Alston; and her step-father, Charles Boyd.
She leaves to continue her legacy, her mother, Angela Alston-Boyd; her father, Kenneth Smoot; four sisters, Yasmeen Alston, Maggie Alston-Boyd, Kayla Smoot and Monique Barr; two brothers, Charles Boyd Jr. and Timmothy Boyd; her grandfather, Eldridge Alston (Shirley); her uncle, Nigel Alston (Sarah); her cousin, Wali Alston (Stephanie); and a host of other relatives and friends.
Homegoing services for Alana will be held at one o'clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 14th day of October in the year 2013 at Greater Cleveland Avenue Christian Church. Visitation will be held at twelve o'clock noon. The family will assemble at the home; 2565 Wallingford Road, Winston-Salem, NC.
Special thanks to her godmother, Felecia Bennett-Giles and family friends, Eileen Rice for their love and devotion during this time. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the doctors and nurses of the 4A ICU at WFBH who so diligently cared for her during this period of illness. Your compassion and professionalism are commendable.
