Agnes Jamison Charley, 87 years old, of Orangeburg, SC departed this life on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston Salem, NC. Born September 30, 1934 to the late Johnnie Jamison and Lucia Price. She was the eldest of 5 siblings, Johnnie Jamison Jr. who preceded her in death, Lucia Dean Zimmerman, Willie Rowe Jr., Ruth McClary and Naomi Prophet.
Agnes attended the Orangeburg school system but did not graduate taking on the responsibility of helping with the household chores and younger siblings. Family was so important. She extended herself by reaching out and keeping close connections with them. Agnes' religious background began at Butler Chapel in Orangeburg, SC., where her family was very strict and devout Christian believers. She was taught to love God first and His people. It was there and with the instructions of her mother to become a great Missionary. Visiting the sick and needy.
At the age of 17, Agnes left home and journeyed to the Big Apple, NYC where she resided with her aunt Thelma Joyner. There she became acquainted with and joined the Mt. Horeb Holiness Church of God, Inc. where her aunt and family also attended. Her spiritual life blossomed and she received the gift of the Holy Ghost. Praising the Lord with the clapping of her hands, dancing with her feet and serving the Lord brought joy to her soul.
It was at Mt. Horeb that Agnes met the love of her life, Melvin Alexander Charley. Life changed as they were united in Holy Matrimony, August 19, 1955. To this union 4 children were born, but because of the love God gave them for family and children, other children were grafted into this family unit, and they all became one. Agnes, as a mother taught her children life skills in the home as well as Godly values in the church. The Lord blessed Agnes to be an example to her children that hard work pays off as she achieved her GED and completed her Home Attendant Certificate, working private duty caring and administering love to her patients and families.
Agnes' life was dedicated to nurturing, supporting, disciplining, helping, and loving all that the Lord brought her way. Agnes loved and worked tirelessly for the Lord. She became one of the greatest Missionaries in the army of the Lord. Serving in the church as well as in her neighborhood and everywhere the Lord led her to go. There was no work too hard, no distance she would not go to complete the assignments God had charged to her hands. Agnes truly loved people. Her gifts of help included Neighborhood Senior Citizen choir member, Creedmoor Ministry member for over 30 years, local and district Missionary President of the Mt. Horeb Holiness Church and NANE District. Church Mother, Church secretary and faithful member of the Mt. Horeb Sr. Choir. Mother of the Holiness Churches of God, Inc. Special Honor is attributed to Mother Charley's ability as a Fundraiser. Her #1 well-known achievement was raising $10,000 within a short time and paving the churches parking lot. "TO GOD BE THE GLORY!"
