Ada Belle Huff Evans, 78, was born June 9, 1932 in Langley, SC and departed this life on Friday, June 3, 2011 at her home in Winston-Salem, NC. She was married to Ray Allen Evans of High Point, NC and they resided with their two daughters in Colorado for over 40 years before moving back to NC in 2001.
Mrs. Evans was elected mayor of Fairplay, Colorado and became the first Black, female mayor elected in the state of Colorado. She was also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Ray Allen Evans.
She leaves to mourn her daughters, Cheri Evans and Rachelle (Charles) Burrell both of Winston-Salem, NC; one stepson, John (Annette) Evans and one stepdaughter, Vimla Evans both of Rochester, NY; two brothers, Walter Huff of Aiken, SC and Luther R. Huff of Hyattsville, MD; one sister, Gladys Walker of Augusta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends.
Funeral mass will be held at 10am Thursday, June 9, 2011 at St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church with Father Lawrence Heiney presiding. Interment will follow in Carolina Biblical Gardens, High Point, NC. The family visitation will be held from 9:30am until 10am on Thursday at the Church.
