  Elder Jewel Yellock Truman 

Elder Jewel Yellock Truman, formerly of Gray Avenue passed away on Monday, July 17, 2006 at Springwood Care Center of Forsyth. She was born on February 19, 1928 in Person County, North Carolina, the daughter of Walter Dock and Annie Bell Carver Yellock. She moved to Winston-Salem, NC after graduation from high school and resided here ever since. Jewel attended Winston-Salem Business College and Russell’s Commercial Business College. She was employed with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System as a secretary at Skyland Elementary School, was a receptionist at the Senior Services Center at the Urban League. She was a faithful member of Grace Presbyterian Church, USA where she was an Elder, was moderator/secretary of Presbyterian Women, was host of the Salem Presbyterian Hospitality, a member of Bible Class #1, and was treasurer of the Presbyterian Black Caucus. In the community, she was the Secretary of Citizen Fire Safety, Special Registration Commissioner for her Precinct, Neighborhood Volunteer, a member of Committee Women of Color. She had worked at Gilmore Funeral Home as a secretary and at the time of her illness was employed as an administrative assistant at Russell Funeral Home, Inc.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry Truman; two sisters, Christine Farrish and Ruth Pinnix; one brother, James “CHUCK” Yellock.
She is survived by two sisters, Ida Marie Yellock and Frances Yellock (Emanuel) Bronson both of Philadelphia, PA; two brothers, Frank (Edna) Yellock and Morris Yellock both of Philadelphia, PA; a host of nieces, nephews; devoted extended family members, Juanita Williams of Winston-Salem, NC, the Reverend Gail Favors of Greensboro, NC and the Russell Funeral Home staff; other relatives and many friends.
Special thanks to the Gold Unit at Springwood Care Center at Forsyth for all the dedication and care given to Mrs. Truman during her stay there.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 24, 2006 at 12:00 NOON from the Grace Presbyterian Church, USA with Elder William Shouse officiating and the Reverend Gail Favors as Eulogist. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 12:00 NOON on Monday at the Church.
