Fulton Miles McFarlin, 101, of 4010 Carver School Road, the
second daughter of John and Rosa Hilton Fulton, passed away
Monday, February 6, 2006. She was born in Kernersville, NC, on
December 29, 1904.
the local schools and Scotia Seminary (now Barber-Scotia
College) in Concord, NC.
1926, Zura Fulton married Lindsay Bethal Miles and lived in
Winston-Salem, NC. Zura and Lindsay Miles eventually moved to
death of her husband, Zura Miles returned to North Carolina.
After establishing a home for herself and her sons, she
secured employment with the R. J. Reynolds Tobacco
Second Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. There she
played piano and organ for the Sunday School and for the
Instrumental Choir. After marrying Harmon McFarlin in 1961,
Zura moved her membership to Saint Stephen Missionary Baptist
Church where she has worked with the Sunday School, the
Deaconess Board, the Mother's Board, and the Missionary
Society. Her community activities include craft and sewing
classes at Mount Zion Baptist Church, the Rupert Bell
Recreation Center as well as membership in the Carver Senior
Citizen's club, and Kernersville-Walkertown Get Together
preceded in death by her husband, Lindsay Bethal Miles, Sr.;
her husband, Harmon McFarlin; two sons, Joseph William Miles
and Lindsay Howard Miles, Jr.; a grandson, Gregory Lee Miles;
a granddaughter, Betty Miles Williams. Zura is survived by a
devoted loving son, Walter Lee Miles (Barbara); two devoted
granddaughters, Carolyn Miles McWillis (Carlton) and Waltina
Miles Johnson (Kenneth); devoted grandsons, Wesley L. Miles
(Louise), Sherman D. Miles (Amber), and Walter L. Miles, Jr.;
devoted great grandchildren, Darryle Miles (Shari), Delisa C.
Daniels (Byron), Heavenly, Julian, Onyx Johnson, Mitchell,
Evan, Alisha Miles, Sherman (Caletta), Shermell Wesley, Jr.,
Sandra Miles, Glenn and Michael Miles, and Sharon Watts; 13
grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 25, great, great
services will be held at 1 pm Friday, February 10, 2006 at St.
Stephen Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. J.R. Samuels,
officiating. Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory,
Walkertown, NC. Family visitation will be held from Noon until
1 pm Friday at the church.
