  Mr. John Cromwell Covington

Mr. John Cromwell Covington, affectionately known to family and friends as "J.C." or "Mr. C," passed from mortality to immortality on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Covington was born April 7, 1913, in Anson County to John Baxter and Lillor Hinson Covington. He was educated in the Anson County schools. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior at Deep Creek Baptist Church in Anson County, Wadesboro. Upon moving to Winston-Salem, he became a founding member of Second Mount Zion Baptist Church (now Zion Memorial Baptist Church). He was a member of the Laymen League and taught Sunday school for a number of years. He was united in marriage to Rosa Lee Ford Covington. J.C. served as custodian at the Patterson Avenue YW/YMCA for many years. During his tenure there, he worked actively and patiently with the young people and had a very positive impact on their lives. In addition to his parents, Mr. C. was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Lee Ford Covington. He leaves with loving memories of his kindness a sister, Mrs. Azalee Covington Taylor; four sisters-in-law, Mrs. Odessa Covington, Mrs. Emma Covington, Mrs. Hazel Covington and Mrs. Annie Bell Evans; an aunt, Mrs. Olivia Hinson; a host of nieces and nephews; and devoted godson and goddaughter Richard and Jacqueline Roane Sr. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Russell Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Joseph Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at the funeral home. Special thanks to Adelaide Carter, Larry and Lola Glenn and Mrs. Patty Martin for their special love and support not only to J.C. but to the family as well. The family may be contacted at the home of Richard and Jacqueline Roane Sr., 5766 Belews Creek Road, Walkertown (336-595-4033).
