  Mr. Robert Lee Caldwell, Sr 

Mr. Robert Lee Caldwell, Sr., 75, of 621Barbara Jane Avenue slept away Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at Forsyth Medical Center after a brief illness. Mr. Caldwell was born on October 4, 1930 in Saint Paul Community of Summerton, South Carolina to Abraham Caldwell and Virginia Dubose Caldwell. He has lived here for over 57 years. Mr. Caldwell retired from R.J.. Reynolds after serving 35 years of service in the Department of Engineering Building and Ground/Whitaker Park Plant. He was a member of First Baptist Church on Highland Avenue where he served and loved God. During his early years, he was a Boy Scout leader to many youths at the church. He was an active member of the Usher Board until his health declined. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his brothers and friends. Mr. Caldwell was preceded in death by his mother; his wife of over 54 years, Florence P. Caldwell; and two brothers, John and Simon Caldwell. He is survived by his loving and devoted children, Robert (Constance) Caldwell Jr., and Gloria Caldwell (Bernard Witherspoon) both of the city, Joyce (Benjamin) Brown of Pfafftown, N.C., Janice (Michael) Pettigrew of the city, and Virginia Caldwell of the home; nine grandchildren, Michelle Caldwell, Micheal Pettigrew, Renita Scales, Chrystal (Nathan) Belcher, Robert Scales, Jr., Jason Caldwell, Johnathan Pettigrew, Kendra and Briana Witherspoon all of the city; thirteen great-grandchildren, Samara, Makayla, Ariyana, Joshua, Mnemosyne, Najashi, Janae’Jah, Jermiah, Acoustus, Jayniah, Zoei, Joslyn and Sye’; his father, Abraham Caldwell of Summerton, S.C.; two brothers, Joseph (Polly) Caldwell of Kernersville, N.C. and Malachi Caldwell of Summerton, S.C.; two sisters, Sarah Harrison of Yeadon, P.A. and Beatrice McKnight of Columbia, S.C.; one stepsister, Elois Faulk of Chadborne, N.C.; three aunts, Lou Dubose of New York, Fannie Gibson and Magdelene Mountrie both of Summerton, S.C.; one uncle, Samuel Caldwell of the city; and a host of nieces, nephews, three sisters-in law, one brother-in-law, other relatives and many devoted friends including: Harding Bowles, Lorenzo Wolford, John Morrison, Apostle Wallace Gaither, William Blue and loving neighbors of the City View Community. Robert was loved by all and will be missed by many. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, September 9, 2006 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church with the Reverend Glenn Pettiford officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Saturday at the church. A special thanks to Dr. C. Chase, Dr. C. Green, Dr. Yetter, Dr. Brown and the nursing staff of ICU Neuro.
