  Mrs. Freddie Mae Hancock Brown

Mrs. Freddie Mae Hancock Brown, 76, of 1422 East Sedgefield Drive passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2006 at her residence. She was born on November 27, 1929 in Cheraw, SC, the daughter of the Reverend Sandy B. Hancock, Sr. and Doreatha Douglas Hancock. She was raised by the late Rosalee Friday Hancock, her step-mother. Freddie gave her life to Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Pee Dee Baptist Church in Cheraw, SC. Upon relocation to Winston-Salem, NC, she joined Spencer Memorial Christian Church and later became a member of Rising Ebenezer Baptist Church where she served faithfully as the Youth Director, Pastor's Aid, member of the Senior Choir and the Missionary Circle. God then summoned her to United Progressive Baptist Church where she served on the Senior Choir, Pastor's Aid and Missionary Circle until her health declined. A graduate of Coulter Memorial Academy in Cheraw, SC, she received her high school diploma and a two year degree. In 1987, she retired from AT & T Technology with more than 20 years of service. She was married to the late Mack Brown and to this union was born eight children, with her first born child, Hattie B. Christian, preceding her in death. She leaves to cherish her memories, two sons, James B. Brown (Debra) of Old Town, NC and Johnny Ray Brown (Diane) of Winston-Salem, NC; five daughters, Carol B. Dearmon, Cynthia B. Hall both of Winston-Salem, NC, Robbie B. McDuffie (Jerry) of Rural Hall, NC, Freddie Maxine Brown and Amanda Elizabeth Brown both of the home; a brother, Sandy B. Hancock, Jr.; one loving sister, Katherine Hancock Wallace of Washington, DC; fifteen grandchildren, one of whom she raised as a son, Ronnie D. Christian; five great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will dearly miss her. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Vivian Hancock of Farrell, PA. Funeral services will be held at Noon Saturday, January 28, 2006 at United Progressive Baptist Church with the Reverend Lewis Devlin, officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be from 6 pm until 8pm Friday at the Russell Funeral Home.
