Mrs. Margaret M.
Blakes , “The
Cake Lady”, 74, of 355 Alspaugh Street, went home to her
savior on Saturday, March 11, 2006 at Forsyth Medical Center
in Winston-Salem, NC. A wife, mother, grandmother,
sister, and friend, was born on August 4, 1931, in Darlington,
SC to James McCloud and Katie Thomas. Mrs. Blakes was
retired from Domestic Engineering and became a self - employed
caterer. She was a member of Union Baptist Church. She also
once held the position of President for “The Women Christian
Birthday Club”, of Winston-Salem. In addition to her
parents she is preceded in death by children, James, Jr.. and
Robert Blakes; sisters, Suzanna Jenkins, Juanita Lockheart,
and Mable McCloud; and one grand-daughter, Margaret B.
Alexander.
She leaves to cherish her husband of fifty-nine years,
Mr. James Blakes; children, Walter Blakes, Mary B. White
(Bernard), Johnny Blakes (Yolanda), Randolph Blakes, Ralph Blakes, Sr.,
Ivan (Ricky) Blakes, all of Winston-Salem, NC; siblings, Ella
Mae Moses, Corina Lewis, Katie “Helen” Kinzer (Lazzir),
Mary Grantham of Brooklyn, NY, Edna Williams(Clarence) of East
Orange, NJ, Dexter McLendon and Robert Lee Thomas(Cynthia) of
Darlington, SC, Willie T. McCloud of Durham, NC, and
John Henry Thomas (Marie) of Brooklyn, NY;
brothers-in-law, Past Charlie Jenkins, John Lockheart of Darlington, SC;
an uncle, Sears Simon of Winston-Salem, NC; eighteen
grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, and five great, great, grandchildren all of
Winston-Salem, NC. A homegoing celebration will be held at Noon
Friday, March 17, 2006 at Union Baptist Church. Interment will follow
in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be
from 11 am until Noon Friday at the Church. The
family will assemble at the home of Mary B. White, 136 Dunleith
Ave. |
