Mr. Jasper Benjamin Sr., 72, of 941 Highland Avenue, Winston-Salem, passed away Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born Dec. 24, 1933, in Forsyth County, the son of Lonnie and Mary Benjamin. He gave his life to Christ at an early age. He joined the U.S. Armed Forces and served in the Korean War. He retired from Unique Furniture Co. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Julia B. Henry. He leaves to mourn his wife, Bessie Mae Benjamin; four daughters, Alicia L. Cross, Vanessa Belser-Benjamin, Patricia Benjamin and Vasilika Benjamin; and his only son, Jasper Benjamin Jr., all of Cleveland, Ohio; a sister, Eva Graham of Charlotte; 31 grandchildren, all of Cleveland Ohio; 34 great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; a devoted cousin, Hakim "Butch" Smith (Terri); and other relatives and friends. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, in the chapel of Russell Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Blake officiating. Interment will follow at Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury. The family visitation will be from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
