Mr. Sherman Armstrong
Mr. Sherman Armstrong, 84, affectionately known as "7-Up," passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was a native and lifelong resident of Winston-Salem and a retired carpet installer for Bowen Town & Country Furniture Co. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Chancel Choir, Laymen's League and Sunday school. He was also the District Grand Trustee of the Odd Fellows Lodge No. 7 of North Carolina. He is survived by his wife, Peggy P. Armstrong, of the home; two sons, Robert Walker of Charlotte and Darrell (Mary) Myers of Pfafftown; five daughters, Vickee' Armstrong of High Point, and Gloria Myers, Tasha Cook, Tekila (Kenneth) Jones and Carla (Darryl) Jackson, all of Winston-Salem; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a half sister, Cleone (Fred) Gaines, of Winston-Salem; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at Mount Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Serenus T. Church officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at the church.
