Mrs. Josephine Kershaw Anderson of 3109 Heitman Drive, Winston-Salem,
passed away on Monday, Sept. 11, 2006, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was
born July 9, 1939, in Union, S.C., the daughter of Elizabeth Kershaw. She spent
most of her life in Winston-Salem being reared by her great-grandparents,
William and Mary Foote. Josephine was the valedictorian of her high school and
entered Winston-Salem Teachers College in 1958. She was a retiree of AT&T/Lucent
Technologies and was an avid NASCAR fan. She was preceded in death by her
mother; two brothers, James and Jefferson Gist, of Detroit; and an uncle, Meeks
Kershaw. She is survived by her devoted husband of 44 years, Clarence Anderson;
six sisters, Doris Walthall of Birmingham, Ala.; and Brenda Gist, Jacqueline
Gist, Vanessa Gist, Karen Gist and Daphne (Tyrone) Simms, all of Detroit; six
brothers, Rodney, Brian, Kenneth, Nolan Wendall and Michael, all of Detroit;
special cousins, Oscar and Cynthia Dunlap and Joan and Ronald Holmes; special
friends, Clarence and Rosa West Jr., Charles and Romaine Eaton, Ozelle Hollins,
Diann Sockwell, the Phillips family and the Hiatt family; NASCAR racing
families, the Guthries, Goffs, Sevignys, McHones, Pates, Browns, Martins and
Watsons; and godchildren Clarence T. West III (Louisa), Bonita Speas (Kim),
Chenetta West and Adriene Gray. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 16, in the chapel of Russell Funeral Home. Interment will follow
in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be from noon to 12:30 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 16, at the funeral home.
