Mrs. Addie Ruth Acey
Mrs. Addie Ruth Acey was born on Tuesday, December 9, 1913 in Whitney, Alabama, one of 14 children, to John and Alice Hammell. Mrs. Acey passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at Forsyth Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She attended the local public schools in Alabama and later moved to Leavenworth, Kansas. In 1975, she relocated to Winston-Salem, NC and united with the Shiloh Baptist Church where she faithfully served with the Senior Nurses, Woman’s Ministry, Sheepfold Ministry #1 & #2 and the former Star of Hope Auxiliary. In the community, she was a member of Lachenalia Garden Club. An exceptional cook, she enjoyed sharing her many recipes with family and friends. She also loved to travel, visiting many different countries. She loyally worked in many private homes over the years. Mrs. Acey was predeceased by 12 siblings, her former husband, Joe G. Acey; sons, Billie Morris Borden, George B. Acey and a daughter, Jessie Ruth Acey. Loving memories will be cherished by a son, Curtis J. (Eleonore) Borden of Louisville, KY; two daughters, Dr. Betty A. (Reginald) Alexander of Winston-Salem, NC and Juliette A. (Charles) Brooks of Dumfries, VA; a sister, Essie Moore of Gasden, Alabama a devoted brother-in-law, Elmer V. Sublett of Valrico, FL; 19 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 17 great, great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 27, 2006 at 1:00 PM from the Shiloh Baptist Church. Entombment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be from 12:00 NOON until 1:00 PM on Monday at the Church.
