Mrs. Mary Dobbins Roberts

Mrs. Mary Dobbins Roberts of 1345 Jonestown Rd. and formerly of 2937 Greenway Ave. was born February 1, 1905 in Winston-Salem , NC . Her grandmother, Mrs. Tina Dobbins, after the death of her mother, raised Mrs. Roberts. Upon completion of her education, Mrs. Roberts, at the age of 17 was joined in marriage to Mr. Lloyd Wilkes in 1922. She became a widow only five years later, upon the death of Mr. Wilkes. She later married Mr. Cleveland Roberts. The couple did not have biological children. However, their love for children was so great that they raised Mr. Frederick and Mr. Earnest Tindal from infancy to adulthood.

"Ma Mary" as Mrs. Roberts was affectionately known, was employed by R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company for 44 years and worked alongside her dear friend and neighbor, Mrs. Lois Crosby. "Ma Mary" and Brother Cleveland united with St. Philips Moravian Church, May 21, 1968 where both her sons, Frederick and Earnest were baptized and confirmed.      .

"Ma Mary" had numerous loves, however what was very dear to her was her love of flowers. She possessed a PH.D in Horticulture, which was God given. She also had a Masters Degree in Home Management, also, God given. "Ma Mary" exemplified the "Virtuous Woman". At 2:48 PM on Monday, October 3, 2005, "Ma Mary" walked faithfully into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Leaving to cherish loving memories are her two sons, Mr. Frederick Tindal of San Antonio, Texas and Mr. Earnest Tindal (Abigail) of Raleigh, NC; four grandchildren, Cydney Mary, She'tora, Shante' and Asia; four devoted friends, Mrs. Lois Crosby, Mrs. Willard Robinson, Mrs. Carol Richardson and the Reverend Konnie Robinson; and a host of friends, neighbors and associates.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 8, 2005 at St. Philips Moravian Church with the Reverend Sandra L. Thigpen, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery . The family visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.
