Mrs. Eula Moore Matthews

Mrs. Eula Moore Matthews, 93, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at her home in Winston-Salem, NC following a long illness. She was the fourth of ten children born to Carrie Wilson McIntyre and Andrew McIntyre, Sr. She was born December 28, 1911 in Greenville, Tennessee, but migrated with her family to North Carolina at such an early age that she never knew any other home but Winston-Salem. She was a long time employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, having retired from the company in 1976 after serving some 45 years primarily as a stemmer. It was her surpassing skills as a tobacco stemmer that induced a feature article in the local newspaper the year of her retirement praising her talent, dexterity and conscientiousness in what was becoming a dying art. She was a faithful member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she served as a member of the choir and as a member of the Meriam Missionary Group, until her illness limited and later ended her ability to participate.
Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by her parents; all of her four brothers and five sisters, having become the family matriarch some 20 years ago.
She is survived by five of her seven children (two daughters, Yvonne and Carolyn passed away in 1991), Shirley Blackburn of the home, Colonel (Ret.) Bobby Moore (Geraldine) of Stone Mountain, GA, Loleane (Bob) Williams, Robert (Shirley) Moore and Bernard (Belinda) Matthews all of Winston-Salem, NC; 25 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday, December 24, 2005 at 1:30 pm at Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Serenus T. Churn, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 1 pm until 1:30 pm on Saturday at the Church. Online condolences can be sent to www.russellfuneralservice.com
