Mr. Lonnie Johnson of 1508 Clark Avenue, known to family and friends as "Pop" passed away Thursday, November 3, 2005 at his residence. He was born on January 2, 1928 in Lumberton, NC, the son of the late Louis and Winnie Campbell Johnson. He moved to Winston-Salem, NC at a young age where he fell in love with Annie Lou Way and united in Matrimony for 58 years. He was employed at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company for 33 years, Hanes Hosiery for 15 years and North Carolina Baptist Hospital for 8 years. He also was a member of American Legion Post #220 and the Light Harley Davidson Motorcycle Club.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his brother and sister and his wife in January, 2005.
He leaves. to cherish his memory a son, Lonnie Lewis Johnson, Jr. of the home; two grandsons, Demon and Neon Johnson of Winston-Salem, NC; a foster daughter, Wanda Hallums of Winston-Salem, NC; a brother, Billy Johnson of New Jersey; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 10, 2005 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor James Rowdy officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
