Mr. Earnest "Scoop" Johnson, Sr.

Mr. Earnest "Scoop" Johnson Sr., a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Men's Ministry, Men's Chorus and the Sheepfold Ministry Group No. 8 and No. 9. He was also a former deacon. He was a retired employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., Whitaker Park Plant, where he worked for 30 years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Johnsie Mae Johnson; brother Virnell Johnson Sr.; and daughter Janet Johnson. He leaves to cherish his fond memories his wife, Savannah Johnson; son, Earnest Jr. (Tammie); sister, Linda Sherman (Willie); granddaughters, Jessica (Cedric) Hooper, Erica Johnson and Brianna Johnson; great-grandson, Cedric Hooper Jr.; niece,s Lynette Jones, Minister Valerie (Anderson) Hicks, Jashana Brown of Verona, N.J., Jean (Leo) and Arianna Griffith of Springfield, N.J., Violet (Kevin) Hoyle of Virginia Beach, Va., Georgetta Gaddy of Spring Lake, Phyllis and Vera (John) Young of Piscataway, N.J., and Debra (Wilbur) Panky; nephews, Minister Virnell (Vicki) Johnson Jr., Sebastian Powell, Donnell Allen of Tallahassee, Fla.; in-laws, the Rev. Bessie and Henry Massey and the Rev. Miller and Alice Allen, all of Winston-Salem, the Rev. James and Albertha Williams of Warrenton, Ruby and Ricky Allaway of East Orange, N.J., Jasper and Earlene Powell of Verona, N.J., and George and June Powell of Newark, N.J.; and cousins, the Blakney, Byers, Williams, Harvey, Miller and Smith families. Extended family members who loved him dearly include Tonya (Stephen) Myers, Darlene Higgins, Faye, Tarsha and Paris Hatcher, Peggy and Melvin Hairston, Estoria and Joe Smith, Isaiah and Julia Todd, Ben and Helen Williams, McKinley Williams, Donald Adams, Walter and Shirley Hairston, Julia and James Chisholm, Cheryl and Samuel McIllwain, Linda Scales, Daisy Smith, Eddie and Sylvia Bines, Millie Davidson, Clara Ellis, Levolia Washington, Hilda Smith and family, Faye Carter and family, Magdalene Cuthrell and family, Helen Scott, Charles Harris, Queen and Theodore Fant, Geneva Blackmon and family, the Woodruff family, the Clyburn family, Betty Smith and family, Hayworth Vaughn, Winfred and Mary Williams, Justina Garrett, Sonia Duncan Collins, Pastor Olivia, Roger, Jalessa and Jessica Allen, Loretta Baldwin, Alecia Manuel of Greenville, Tenn., Dwight Brannon, Gary Johnson, Tony and Sonia Smallwood, Mike and Yullanda Cannon, Jimmy Moody, Denny Lash, Lisa Cash, Robbie Shore, Gwendolyn Gwyn, Phyllis Spann and Cedric Glenn. The family visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8, at Shiloh Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Shiloh Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Paul A. Lowe Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
