Mr.
Edward Jackson Hawkins of
1625 East 3rd Street
was born November 26, 1912 to William Robert and Lelia Troy Hawkins.
After a brief illness, he departed this life Thursday morning, October
13, 2005. He was a lifelong member of
St. Paul
United
Methodist
Church
. He was a retired member of the Usher Board, United Methodist Men and
member and treasurer of the Men's Bible Class. He was also a steward.
Mr.
Hawkins was a member of Camel City Elks Lodge #1021 where he formerly
served as financial secretary. He was a member of the Past Exalted Rules
Council #101 in
High Point
,
Greensboro
,
Winston-Salem
and Reidsville and served as financial secretary for twelve years.
On
the state level he was a member of the Past State President's Council
and he served on several committees. He received several awards and
certificates of recognition and was a member of the NAACP.
He
was married to Arlease Blue Hawkins who preceded him in death as well as
his parents and a grandson, Horace Hawkins.
Left
to cherish his memory are a loving daughter, Dolores Hawkins; a devoted
niece, Jeannene (Bruce) Caesar; four nephews, James Farrow, William
(Marilyn) Farrow, Kenneth (Helen) Havner and Roosevelt (Lauretta) Havner;
a lifelong family friend, Dorothy Moore; two granddaughters; three great
granddaughters; one great grandson; two great, great grandchildren;
several great nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday,
October 17, 2005 at
St. Paul
United
Methodist
Church
with the Reverend Donald Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in
the
Evergreen
Cemetery
. The family visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Monday
at the Church.
