James Franklin Hairston, formerly of 858 Camel Avenue, passed
away on November 11, 2005 at the Springwood Care Center. He was
born October 26, 1923 to the Reverend Braxton C. and Brown Lee
Hairston in Corrine, West Virginia.
Mr. Hairston was a 1941 graduate of Atkins High School and was
also a graduate of Delwatt School of Electronics. He was a World
War II Veteran having served with the Army Corps of Engineers.
Mr. Hairston was a retired employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco
Company. Post retirement employment included working in the Food
Services Department of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School
System.
He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church where he served on
the Usher Board, Baptist Training Union, Flower Club, and
Benevolent Committee.
In addition to his parents, four brothers and four sisters
preceded Mr. Hairston in passing.
Surviving family members include one brother, Peyton T.
Hairston, Sr. of Winston-Salem, NC; one sister, Eleanor H.
(John) Organ of Silver Springs, Md.; an uncle, Patrick T. (Florina)
Hairston of Winston-Salem, NC; a number of nieces, nephews,
other relatives and dear friends.
Home going Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November
16, 2005 at New Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Drayton,
officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Family
visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday
at the church.
