Mrs. Ruby E. Byrd

Mrs. Ruby E. Byrd, 84, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005 , at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born June 26, 1921 , in Hartsville , S.C. , to Fannie and Robert Edwards and was a lifelong resident of Winston-Salem . On July 2, 1948 , Ruby married Ephraim C. Byrd. She was devoted to both family and friends. She was a faithful employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. for 49 years. Her husband; brothers; sisters; and a granddaughter preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Dianne Byrd Ross; a son, Bernard Byrd (Brenda); four grandchildren, Valjean Byrd, Tam (Peter) Davis, Tonya Byrd and Tovonda Terrell Coad; a beloved great-grandson, Monte' Byrd; a devoted niece, Beverly (James) Falls of Chicago, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Ruth Edwards of Winston-Salem; two goddaughters, Jean Salter and Donna Stewart; and a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at First Calvary Baptist Church , with the Rev. Calvin Runnels officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery . The family visitation will be from noon to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at the church.
