Mrs. Carrie Adams Barnett

Right now the Angels of Heaven are rushing through those golden corridors, shouting, “Carrie is here, Carrie is here!”

Mrs. Carrie Adams Barnett “Mama Carrie” of 2820 Raleigh Avenue passed away Sunday, November 13, 2005 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born October 5, 1914 in Richmond County, the daughter of Raney Adams and Maggie Rivers. She came to Winston-Salem, NC at an early age. At that time she attended Columbia Heights High School. Mrs. Barnett went to work at R.J. Reynolds in 1930 and stayed until she retired in 1976. She joined Mount Zion Baptist church in 1932, where she was a member of the Usher Board, Miriam Group, the Hattie File Club, Sunday School Class #4 and the Pastor's Bible Study Noon Class and Food Service Committee. She was a longtime member of Queens of Olympic #620 and also served with the Castle Heights Community Club.
Mrs. Barnett was preceded in death by her parents; her four brothers, Thomas Adams, Bennie Adams, Napoleon and Andrew Adams; two sisters, Jennie Adams and Katie Kenyon; one niece, Gloria Adams.
She leaves to mourn, one son, Thomas Barnett, Jr.; one sister, Juliette Elam; and one brother, Ronnie Adams; six grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; two dedicated nephews, Alfred Adams (Joy) and Gearld Adams (Shadina); three dedicated nieces, Angela Dobson (Joe), Toni A. Dobson and Carletta Adams; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Noon Friday, November 18, 2005 at Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Serenus T. Chun, Sr., officiating. Interment will follow in the Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until Noon Friday at the church with Masonic Rites beginning at 11:15 a.m.
